What Is Gelato Feminised?Gelato Feminised brings genuine West Coast dessert genetics to a full photoperiod grow. Mr. Sherbinski and Jigga created the original Gelato cut around 2014, crossing Sunset Sherbet with Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies. That pairing produced several standout phenotypes, some of which still circulate today under their original pot numbers. This feminised version also grows on a standard light cycle, flowering once switched to 12/12.
Several seed banks now sell their own feminised version of this cross. Each works from the same confirmed Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies parentage. So growers get that same dessert-like sweetness and smooth, relaxing finish that made the original cut famous.
What makes this version stand out is how faithfully it carries forward Gelato’s reputation for flavour and a genuinely balanced high. As a result, growers still request it more than almost any other strain with authentic, well-documented genetics.
Origins & Genetics of GelatoGelato Feminised comes from a confirmed Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies cross. Growers widely credit Mr. Sherbinski and Jigga, the breeders behind Cookie Fam Genetics, as the original creators. Sunset Sherbet itself traces back to an earlier accidental pollination in Sherbinski’s own breeding line, which adds a layer of genuine pedigree rarely available in a commercial cross like this.
Most sources also describe an indica-leaning phenotype, generally putting the split between 55% and 60% indica. One source instead describes a perfectly balanced 50/50 hybrid. THC stays fairly consistent across sources, generally landing between 25% and 28%.
This cross has earned a strong, well-documented reputation for its dessert-like sweetness and smooth, balanced high. So its core flavour and effect stay remarkably consistent, even where exact phenotype and yield figures vary a little by source.
Gelato Effects, Aroma & FlavourUsers commonly describe an immediate euphoric and creative lift, with cerebral uplift easing into a happy, relaxed body feel as the high develops. That combination makes it a genuine option for a social afternoon session or a mellow evening wind-down.
Meanwhile, the aroma leans sweet and creamy, with a distinct dessert-like character alongside berry, citrus and earthy undertones.
Limonene, caryophyllene and myrcene also lead the terpene profile in most reports. Our guide to maximising terpenes is a useful companion read if you want to preserve that creamy, dessert-like character through curing.
Growing Gelato SeedsThis strain rates as moderately demanding rather than truly beginner-friendly, and it rewards attention to ventilation and humidity control. Since it’s a full photoperiod plant, it needs a switch to a 12/12 light cycle indoors to begin flowering.
Indoors, its dense, resinous structure benefits from a little light defoliation as buds fill out. Our guide to growing cannabis indoors in Australia covers the setup basics if you’re planning an indoor run.
Outdoors, this strain rewards a warm, Mediterranean-style climate with noticeably bigger yields. Our Australian cannabis grow calendar is a useful companion read for timing an outdoor planting correctly.
Gelato Flowering Time & YieldGelato Feminised typically finishes flowering in 8 to 10 weeks from 12/12. Indoors, expect yields of around 500 to 650 g/m² under good conditions.
Outdoors, a healthy plant typically produces somewhere between 600 and 800g, given reasonable light, space and a full season. Sources describing warm, Mediterranean-style climates report considerably higher figures, up to 1 to 2.5kg per plant. Treat those higher numbers as reflecting an especially favourable climate rather than a typical result.
Treat those numbers as a solid planning benchmark rather than a guaranteed outcome. Because this strain rewards patience through a full flowering cycle, it also suits growers happy to commit to one well-timed outdoor season. Our guide to spotting quality weed is a useful companion read once harvest day arrives.
Who Gelato Seeds Suit BestThis strain suits growers chasing genuine, well-documented genetics with a strong flavour reputation. It also suits users after a balanced, euphoric high that still winds down into relaxation. Specifically, growers with a little prior experience will get the most consistent results.
On the other hand, it’s a less natural fit for complete beginners after a low-maintenance grow, or anyone without space for a full veg and flowering cycle. If you’d prefer a faster, self-flowering timeline instead, with no light-cycle switch to manage, Gelato Autoflower is worth a look. For anyone after a full-season grow with genuine, confirmed Gelato genetics, though, Gelato Feminised is hard to beat.
