Northern Lights Autoflower takes one of cannabis’s most influential indica lines and gives it a fast, self-flowering timeline. The original Northern Lights traces back to Afghani, Skunk #1 and Haze genetics. Breeders then add ruderalis to that base. The plant moves from seed to harvest on its own clock, with no light-cycle switch required.

Several seed banks sell a version of this cross, each using its own proprietary ruderalis line to stabilise the autoflowering trait. So growers get that signature calm, earthy character on a much shorter timeline than the classic photoperiod version demands.

What makes this version stand out is how closely it echoes original Northern Lights’ reputation for potency and ease of growth. As a result, it’s become a popular entry point for growers curious about genuine indica character without a full photoperiod season commitment.

Origins & Genetics of Northern Lights

Northern Lights Autoflower generally comes from a Northern Lights and ruderalis cross. Most sources agree closely on that base, and no genuine naming conflict turned up during research. The deeper Northern Lights lineage traces to Afghani, Skunk #1 and Haze genetics, though sources vary in how much of that history they mention.

Most sources also agree on an indica-leaning phenotype, generally putting the split around 80% indica to 20% sativa. THC varies more by source, though: two sources cluster around 16% to 19%, while one reports a considerably lower figure closer to 14% instead.

This cross has earned a strong reputation across several seed banks for its calming, reliable effect especially. So its core character stays remarkably consistent, even where exact yield figures vary a little by source.
